WHAT ARE YOU LIKE?

Many times in my life I have heard this saying, I wonder where it originated. It seems to ask a question of each one of us. Do we really know who we are or do we as we get older see bits and pieces of our true identity? Are we governed by the way that we are brought up or influenced by others characteristics.

I believe that each of us needs to look at this question and ask ourselves are we who we were meant to be or are not living to the full the life we now live. This saying is said of someone who acts out of character to his or her normal way of life. But what if there are glimpses of possibilities in these acts. What if the true identity peeks through and we see glimpses of unfulfilled dreams? How many of us are living with dreams that have never been realised. This piece is here to look at things from four perspectives. We viewed through the lens of the world, the church, self and from the main perspective God's. You see if we look at each part we will see how we have moved from what we were supposed to be to what we have become. And I believe that we are all not living to our full potential. Or as God the creator wants us to live. Let's take a trip, working from the outside and steadily moving towards God's viewpoint.

THE WORLD

We enter the world as newborn babies. We have no control at the time; we are dependent on our parents or those that are tied to our new families. People, who have already been branded by others, boxed into boxes of class and culture. Already living what society tells them is acceptable. Telling them how they should live. But is this right, is this how we are to survive? Already in the cradle we have been labelled by what we wear and by what material assets we have. This is no fault of the parents they are caught up in the western world's culture. As we grow and mix with others groups and the political influences of our society influence us. Questions of acceptance becomes more important than who we really are. We start to act in a particular way to get acceptance. But does that make us free? Does that give us opportunity to express how we feel? Or who we want to be? In this system we are always going to say at the end of our lives, "I wish I had done this or that"

CHURCH LIFE

So is there is a difference between the world and the churches view on who you are? I believe there is, the church has a love for people, it tries all it can to help the needy. But there is a problem still in its outlook. In many cases it still sets boundaries of who is acceptable and who is fit to mix with them. It does not mean to do it, but the church is full of people who have come from worldly thinking, they may have accepted Jesus, but that does not mean that they have let go of all the worldly ways of doing something. The worldly influencing skills of the world still govern a lot of our churches. In other words they go by what they know or by what you do, or by the way that you act. To put you in a group. They and you get caught up in a battle that should have never happened. Both trapped neither giving in. The fear of accepting each other for who we are seems to be unacceptable and uncomfortable, for it may change the system that we have set up. The freedom to move is more important than the system for it is in freedom that God brings us into His understanding and new revelation. His thoughts are not our thoughts.

SELF

The next area of this topic is self. We look at what we have achieved. Is it good enough will it reach the right standard. Will it be accepted? We are continually looking to others for companionship. We want to be liked, to be accepted by society; we want to fit in. But should we become what others are or should we be individuals. Would society be more exciting if we were all the same? I don't think so. Just imagine what that would be like. Yet if we kept our individuality and still mixed, accepting each other's differences. Just imagine the diversity of a group of people like that. Individuality does not mean division it means enrichment, vast opportunity. A life filled with adventure.

GOD'S

God's perspective is different to the above list. God accepts you for who you are He loves you without conditions. He only wants to be with you. He is forever holding out His hands to you. He has made you to be creative. The creator wants His creation to be creative. He has sealed in each of us promises that will be fulfilled as long as we stay open and free to His call. In Col 3:10-15 it says

Each of you is now a new person. You are becoming more and more like your Creator, and you will understand him better. It doesn't matter if you are a Greek or a Jew, or if you are circumcised or not. You may even be a barbarian or a Scythian, and you may be a slave or a free person. Yet Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. God loves you and has chosen you as his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient. Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you. Love is more important than anything else is. It is what ties everything completely together each one of you is part of the body of Christ, and you were chosen to live together in peace. So let the peace that comes from Christ control your thoughts. And be grateful.

So each of us is seen through God's eye as a new person. Let God work this new identity into your life. Whether you have just become a Christian or not does not matter the main thing is that we live the new life. That means if we are still holding on to the old ways, let the Holy Spirit guide you and comfort you. Let the new life be exciting and rich. That what the Bible means by living IN CHRIST.
2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Acts 17:28

"For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'

Ephesians 1:4,10

Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him.

Philippians 3:9; Colossians 2:6,7,9,10
And be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him,
who is the head of all principality and power.

So by looking at these scriptures you can see that there is a real importance about being in Christ and you and I understanding the term used in scripture. It is by understanding this, which we come into the knowledge and revelation of our inheritance that the Lord has left us. We are in Christ;
1. Chosen
2. Gathered
3. Found
4. Walking
5. Dwelling
6. Complete

What a God we serve.

God Bless each one of you as you discover through your studies of the word who you are in His sight.

Amen

Sailing Closer

To The Wind

All journeys’ need to be worked out before you start out. Just imagine what it would be like if you just followed each moment as it occurred. The chances are that you would never arrive at any destination. That is why it is important to map out a course and plan for your life. If you plan you will at least accomplish something. Many people just go along the lines of it will happen if it is meant to be. But is that what God wanted for us, or is there more to life. This series of studies are designed to find out if there is more to this subject.

It starts with a choice, which boat are you in? In the New Testament there is a scene that not only shows this choice, but I believe hits the point on the head, about not only lives choices, but ultimately the eternal destiny of all man kind. The question that needs to be answered is where you are. In this plan, and most of all, can I get back on course with the divine plan for my life?

So let’s get started with this study. Imagine your life so far as if it was a boat or a ship, no matter how old or young you are, life has already started, so the journey has begun. The world is as if an ocean, vast and full of opportunities. (In the eyes of some) or it may be a place of great fear and tread. It may even be a place that makes you feel uncomfortable. No matter what your outlook is, it is there. And there is no avoiding it. What I want you to see in this study is that you have already labelled yourself. The kind of Boat (person) you have decided the limitation on what you can do, to the capabilities of that type of boat. The question is, is there more than that?

When you look around a harbour you see many types of boats and ships. I would like to use this scene to describe the many different types of people that we see in the world. There are those who see themselves as yachts, liners or as a dingy. Which one are you? Do you feel that you want adventure or do you feel safe within the harbour arms? God sees people as they are meant to be, but we see ourselves by what we see. None of these are wrong or right, but I believe God will use each one to accomplish His will. The thing that needs to be answered by yourself is you in the right kind of boat? Or has circumstances and people’s opinion labeled you that? Maybe God see you different? You just need to spend time to get closer to him, to get an understanding of how he sees you. Let’s see the passage that was mentioned earlier and see how two set’s of brothers where changed forever, but not only their lives but the lives of millions since.

Matthew 4:17-22 Then Jesus started preaching, “Turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven will soon be here.” While Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers. One was Simon, also known as Peter, and the other was Andrew. They were fishermen, and they were casting their net into the lake. Jesus said to them, “Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.” Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him Jesus walked on until he saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat with their father, mending their nets. Jesus asked them to come with him too. Right away they left the boat and their father and went with Jesus.

Jesus, proclaimed Turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven will soon be here. There is a time coming, a time of change. You need to change your focus. Jesus said this because He was about to change the whole of history, this was the start of His ministry. What He said was a statement that things were never going to be the same. So where did He start? With a walk, it takes action to make things happen, that is why there has to be a plan, there has to be a destination. The word in the Greek for walk is peripateo {per-ee-pat-eh’o} which means to make one’s way, progress, or to make due use of opportunities. That is why Jesus began to walk He was making the most of the opportunities in His life on earth. It takes a lot of courage to declare the truth that God has put into your life. But then to be obedient and step out to make it happen, that is another story. But if you want to see the fruit, of what God has for your life, then you need to start to walk.

Let’s see what happen when Jesus started to walk. He walked along the shore of Galilee. And came across two brothers, fishing. Now what kind of boat where they in? It was one of work of achieving the needs of life. It was a boat of inheritance, their family inheritance. It was a boat that looked upon a life of work. It had no time for other visions. It was inward looking; it had no concern for others outside of family and their needs. Jesus looked out across the sea and He saw the two brothers and they were throwing their nets into the sea.

The word for throwing in the Greek is ballo {bal’lo}. Which means to give over one’s cares, to be uncertain about the results? Not caring where it falls. That was what the two brothers had done all their lives. They had got by, with a lot of hard work they achieved what the family and circumstances of life had expected from them. But that was about to change forever. Maybe at this time you are in a similar position you feel trapped by the circumstances and you are getting by.

But has God got something else in mind for your life? Have you heard from Him, yet you have not walked in obedience. Then it is never too late to get back on course. Listen again, to His voice and respond. That is what the brothers did. Jesus called out, “Come, follow me”.

It was a command. It was come here now. It was direct pointed, it had a destination. A new life, not to be fishermen catching fish, to keep the family fed. But a much vaster vision to feed thousand upon thousands of people. Maybe you have been called to feed more than what you see and experience at this moment in your life.

So how can we change the view that we have of ourselves and the view that other people have. There is only one way and that is to go back to the creator and see it from His perspective. The need to do this is the key to your success, in being who God wanted you to be. Looking at the scriptures it is evident from the very beginning, that he has a purpose for you.

Let’s look at it from Genesis onward. 1:26-28

God said, “Now we will make humans, and they will be like us. We will let them rule the fish, the birds, and all other living creatures.” So God created humans to be like himself; he made men and women. God gave them his blessing and said: Have a lot of children! Fill the earth with people and bring it under your control. Rule over the fish in the ocean, the birds in the sky, and every animal on the earth.

The reason that God created us was to be like Him, and that means that we are to be creative in our being. It says that we are to rule, the fish, the birds, and all other living creatures. Now you can see that the fishermen were not ruling the situation but where being conditioned by them. That is the very first thing that God said about man before creating him. It was before we were even created he purposed us to be successful.

Jeremiah 1:5

“Jeremiah, I am your Creator, and before you were born,

I chose you to speak for me to the nations.”

God chose to create us to be successful, He chose us to have authority over the creation that He created. He wanted us to be a voice to the whole of creation. It was a wonderful thing that day when He created man. But as you and I know the devil took that away from us by deceit. But we do not have to be under that subjection anymore. Jesus claimed that all back at Calvary, on the cross. He has handed us our inheritance back. So the time has come to be what God wants you to be. Bold and courageous in all that we do. He wants us to take control of our environments. To re-establish the creation, back to what it was designed to do and that is to magnify the Glory of our God. Not to be ruled by its conditions, but to release that awesome power of God that rests in the inside of each believer. It was there from the beginning and thanks to what Jesus did on the cross, it is available now.

Acts 1:8-9

But the Holy Spirit will come upon you and give you power. Then you will tell everyone about me in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and everywhere in the world.”

This is what happens when you take back the authority in your situation, you claim back what Jesus died to release you for, to be the witness that God intended you to be from the very beginning. To tell everyone in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria and every where in the world. The illustration below is the meaning of this, and is the way that we are to claim our inheritance back.

Here are four area’s that we need to put back to it’s original state in the eyes of God. And I believe if we start to claim them back then we will be heading in the right direction, but most of all we will be placing ourselves into the right boat, with the proper equipment to get to our destination and that is with God, sharing in His riches and love.

JERUSALEM = in our homes, with those that we live with. The start of all change must begin with us, and those that we are closest to us.

JUDEA = to those that are family outside of those that we live with. e.g. parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts.

SAMARIA =those that live in the neighborhoods that we dwell in. The communities that we live in.

THE WORLD = to all those on the planet that we live on.

So if we go through this process of change, just imagine the difference that this will have, not only on our families but also on the entire earth. This I believe is where we need to look, if there is going to be any change in our time. The boat that you have chosen, or the one that others have labeled you as, condition’s your thinking and ultimately limits your success to be who God wants you to be. Why let the devil stop you. Start today to claim back what is rightfully yours.

Study on the book of Ephesians

Posted by Koinonia the call of the heart

EPHESIANS 3:1-8

There’s a house awaiting you, where there is freedom and joy. Are you willing to visit?

Ephesians 3:1-8

For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

Open an account that is never ending in its supply

Paul describes this passage as a cause; I think that he is right in the way that he begins. His focus is on heaven not earth. The word cause in the Greek is a word that describes an account or in favour of. I like to suggest that Paul was seeing things from the heavenly perspective. See how he was bound to his commitment. He uses the analogy of a prisoner. When you think of it that way you know that he is never going to surrender to other ideologies. I think that is something that has been missing for a long time in our society, people are too easily led astray by other ideals and fads that only last for a little while and are always replaced by something else that needs more money or time. These things only last for a little time and then they die out. Only supplying temporary satisfaction. Well I believe that what we see here, from these writings is something that will last forever for it comes from heaven and not from earth. In other words it’s not mans its God’s.

Paul was open to hear what God was saying to him. He was endowed with the faculty to hear, this came about by him being obedient and willing to do what God was saying. How about you and me are we willing to do what God designed us to be a witness to the world. You are a child of God and you are anointed to witness to the world it’s not done by formulas that people say we should follow. God has made you unique and he has made you to be a creative people. That’s why we are here; we are here to put into this world, to be witness. Its time that we realised that it is by faith that we become a people that God’s wants us to be. So let’s encourage each other to do what He wants us to do. Too many times I have seen people dishearten by other people. By saying that they are no good. Or even worse than that, people saying that you cannot do that without permission in other words they want to control you and the promises of God. How sad it is that we want to be accepted more from man that we do about being the person that God intended us to be.

IT’S TIME TO STEP INTO A NEW DISPENATION OF GRACE

Paul uses the term Dispensation, what does this word mean, in the Greek it means the management of a household, or household affairs. Its time that we looked, at our responsibilities. T hat we have in the house of the God. We all live busy lifestyles and have many different responsibilities. But the most important one is living in the kingdom of God. For it is from that household that we inherit the life changing inheritance. There is no greater example in the Bible than the witness of Paul, chained to guards night and day. Is that how you feel? Living daily and no time to do anything let alone witness to the world. If that is so we can learn a lot from Paul’s circumstances. He had a different view to us, he saw from God’s perspective. There was something new about to happen and he was ready to be used. Are you willing to be used? There is something new about to happen in our day. We will be given many chances to witness to those we live with and with those around us at work and in our social lives. It is time for us to get our house in order, so that we can like Paul life in the Kingdom of God here on earth. Paul started by changing the people around him, the guards were chained to him they could not get away. Why not start there? In our homes and work places. It’s time to set God’s Grace into action. Speak freedom into peoples lives. In other words its time to set up the household that God wants you to manage.

REVELATION OF THE MYSTERY

The word Revelation in the Greek means (to lay bear, making naked) the truth. It also means to make manifest. This is not like a manifesto given by the politicians this one is never changing in it’s promises. You see a mystery is something that's hidden, but with the revelation comes empowerment to see the mystery become real. That’s Paul's life-style, and that should be ours. So lets look at this mystery in greater detail. The mystery was that salvation was to come to all, that meant for the first time Gentiles (the nations) were to be accepted into the kingdom with no condemnation. To the Jews that was not acceptable. That was why Paul was in prison, they thought that they could stop him preaching. But Paul remembered the teaching of Jesus to go to Judah then to Samaria and then to the rest of the world. He started in the prison then wrote letters to the churches. And from those letters the church witnessed to the world. That's all it took, a relationship built up under the restrict of prison life. If you feel that live is like a prison. Maybe it’s time to renew your mind. The mystery has been revealed to us. Let us be the witness that shows revelation to our world today.

UNDERSTAND MY KNOWLEDGE

To understand my knowledge, what does that mean. To understand means to perceive with the mind, to have an understanding. So to understand the mystery that Paul talks about is to perceive with your mind the truth that is laid in front of us. To have knowledge in the Greek means that we should flow together with or a running together.

So if we take this truth and put it into action, what do think the result will be? Let me tell you, it would be a reflection of Paul’s life. It would produce fruit that would bless the church and our nations. To have knowledge is not enough, we see enough of that around us today. People do things today because someone has given them knowledge to do the things we do. Which gets the job done. But what happens is that we follow blindly into situations that cause us problems. It’s understanding that we need today. It’s no longer good to just run with our ideas, but we must perceive with our heart the things of God and make them a living truth. It is only when we come into His promises that see fruit that is nourishing and full of life.

IN AGES PAST

Paul talks about in ages past, he was talking about before then they did not have the good news of Jesus. It was not revealed, it was not the right time. But then was and now is the time. The only thing is that we have forgotten this revelation. Or have we, I believe that some of us have not, there are a few out there in the world. Who are willing to stand their ground and too proclaim the good news. The words “sons of men” means that there is a two fold part to man. Body and soul, you see the revelation is a spiritual revelation and those that only see things two-dimensional as many people do today don’t understand this wonderful truth. They see things in the way of their senses. And with their own logic and experience. But God made man a three dimensional being; Body, Soul, Spirit. So when we get our spiritual side awakened then we see a totally new way of life. We start to live in the three-dimensional. That’s when we see things really begin to happen. Just think about the time, when you where saved things changed very rapidly. It’s the same when we start to walk in Spirit and in truth. So why not look forward to a live of change and a live full of the anointing that is IN CHRIST. For it is when we live in the anointed one and HIS anointing that we truly make a difference to everything around us.

FELLOWHEIRS

So how do we become fellow heirs, we do it by coming into line with the promises of God. It’s by faith that we should live.

Hebrews 11:6 So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

So by faith we are to live, because it is impossible to please God any other way. So lets come into agreement with the promises of God and to line them up with our circumstances so that we can inherit the things of God.

THE EFFECTUAL WORKING

This saying has a meaning that is not as we think of it, from it’s reading. It means the super natural power of God or the devil. In this passage it talks about a gift of grace. It was given by God to be an effectual working of His purposes. With power and life changing effect. Paul was given this so that he could preach to the Gentiles the unsearchables riches of Christ. It is up to us if we are going to respond to God and His promises. If you want to be an effectual witness then you have to stay obedient to your call. And keep your relationship with God foremost in your priorities. To be a person who is led by the Spirit and the truth, is to be a person who God uses and signs and wonders follow.

SO TO SUMMERISE LETS LOOK AT HOW WE CAN BE IN THE RIGHT HOUSEHOLD AND UNDER THE RIGHT MANAGEMENT.

The Peace of God

THE PEACE OF GOD

Each year are we any where near the dream of world peace? Or are we anywhere near the place where each of us can say with true honesty that we have peace with each other?

These questions really hit us hard in the heart when we look around and see so many people so unhappy with their lives. Yet we have the answer to all the problems of the world. The trouble is that we do not realise what God has given us is such a wonderful thing that each one of us, if only we realised it could, and can be world changers.

Yet we need to start with those that are closest to us, for there is where most of our sadness and heartaches begin. In scripture it tells us that we should not quarrel and fight with each other (Proverbs 17:1, 14).

A dry crust of bread eaten in peace and quiet is better than a feast eaten where everyone argues. The start of an argument is like a water leak—so stop it before real trouble breaks out.

.

The time has come for us to be content in what God has done for us and to live in peace. The word peace in this scripture has the meaning of abundance of peace, prosperity in your life, but most of all to be at ease. In other words we should be content, use what we have to it’s full potential. For it is better in God’s eyes if we use what gifts we have to there fullness, rather than try so many different things that if we are honest God has not asked us to do. It is there that arguments begin, and when they start it gets more and more difficult to resolve. Time has come to put things right not only with God but also with each other.

To illustrate this let’s take a scene from the Bible that not only demonstrates this principle. But over the years shows us the power of God .

Genesis 45:20-24

They can leave their possessions behind, because they will be given the best of everything in Egypt. Jacob’s sons agreed to do what the king had said. And Joseph gave them wagons and food for their trip home, just as the king had ordered. Joseph gave some new clothes to each of his brothers, but to Benjamin he gave five new outfits and three hundred pieces of silver. To his father he sent ten donkeys loaded with the best things in Egypt, and ten other donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other food for the return trip. Then he sent his brothers off and told them, “Don’t argue on the way home!”

Joseph is a good example of how we should deal with the situation of strife and quarrelling. Over the years he had suffered terribly over the actions that his brothers. He had gone through being rejected by his family, abused by his masters, betrayed by fellow prisoners, accused without reason. Forgotten by brothers and separated from his father. He knew what it was like to be alone. All because of his jealous brothers, yet how did he respond.

He started with forgiveness. Then followed it with reconciliation. What do I mean, well if you look at what he did for his brothers, when they came to Egypt for help. You will see a process that I believe we need to apply to our situations and circumstances.

It says that he gave wagons of food for their trip home. That to me illustrates the means of transport to get them back to the father. Hence this was to counter the fact that the brothers left him in the hands of the slave drivers, with no way to return to his father. Then he put on each on of them a garment, and especially to Benjamin the fathers favorite he gave him five (grace figuratively) garments. This was to counter the fact that the brothers took his coat of favor and destroyed it, to hide the wrong that they had done to him. He also gave the favorite son Benjamin three hundred pieces of silver. The way the brothers had sold him for twenty pieces of silver, did not hold Joseph in bondage, instead he poured out on his brothers fifteen times the amount that they sold him for.

Then he loaded up donkeys for his father. In this he was showing that his love for his father had not died and that more than anything in the whole world he wanted to see him again.

The most important thing out of this passage is that he told his brothers to go without arguing, he knew that his brothers had not changed their attitude towards life. But that did not matter to Joseph because he knew that reconciliation is the way to forgiveness and that the only way for his family to prosper was by holding the hand peace out with no conditions.

Jesus said Mark 9:50

Salt is good. But if it no longer tastes like salt, how can it be made salty again? Have salt among you and live at peace with each other.

So how about holding out the hand of peace and doing what Joseph did, it does not matter how long ago that hurt was. What matters is that through your obedience to this Godly principle, there is forgiveness, but most of all there is reconciliation.

We should live at peace with each other, of that there is no question. It starts at home but that’s not where it finishes. The work place and the community are just as important. So be a light in the darkness, be the salt that brings flavour to the recipe called life.

God will bless you and not only will life in His presence be wonderful, but the lives around you will be transformed into a peace, that when it comes down to it is what this life is really about. That is what God intended from the beginning of time. That we love one another as He so loved us that He gave His life, so that we can be free.

God bless you as you apply this principle to your life. And you never know that impossible situation that lies between you and a family member or an old friend, with the process of reconciliation make a difference where you thought that it could never be God says that what seems impossible for us is possible for Him. So go on let Him make it possible for you.

The Lord gives perfect peace to those whose faith is firm.
